What is scoliosis?

Has somebody ever mentioned that you’re not quite standing straight? Perhaps one shoulder is higher than the other? Or what about when your mother told you to sit up straight otherwise it’s bad for your posture!

A twist of a curve to your spine is commonly known as a scoliosis. Majority of the time the cause of it is unknown, doctors often relate it genetics, bad posture or muscle imbalances.

As well a visual clues of your spine being out of alignment, back pain seems to be one of the most common symptoms of scoliosis suffers. Along with that other signs to look out for are leaning to one side, uneven shoulders or hips, rib humping and clothes not fitting well.

If you spot any of these signs or symptoms it is important that you have your back checked by your health practitioner for further assessment and investigation.
